Gabriele Höhne is an Artist with a background in Graphic Design.
Her works are expressive and somehow otherworldly. The audience is invited engage with their emotion, spark their imagination, and explore what seems to be hidden. The questions on the mystery of life, research in folklore and ancient and contemporary spiritual practices fuel her art.
Painting feels like meditation where the brush is being moved as if not by herself in state of trance. Sketches are part of the research process and serve as thought-notes rather than a pre-painting sketch to be transferred to the canvas. “The paintings almost paint themselves”. Quite often the painting is changed completely in the painting process. The technique is immediate using dynamic brush strokes, texture, contrasting colours and layers. The tactile feel during painting and the story behind it is as important as the final piece
Currently she works from her studio in London or in a Treehouse in Wiltshire, UK.
She draws her inspiration from nature and unusual secrets of the metropolis.
Born in Germany in an area called “Ruhrgebiet” a transformed industrial area where Gabriele could observe how empty industrial buildings got taken back by flora and fauna.
Her paintings are in private collections Germany and UK.
